## Description

Some 16,000 tonnes of relief supplies moved through southern Sudan in the first two months of Operation Lifeline Sudan, and Lokichogio (LKG) in north-western Kenya was the air base that made it possible. Built up to handle heavy freighters bound for war-affected Sudan, the airport had a long runway and substantial cargo-staging capacity through the 1990s and 2000s. Activity fell sharply after South Sudan's independence in 2011, but the field remains genuinely cargo-capable. Today it serves regional traffic and occasional relief and charter flights. Large-scale commercial freight for the wider region is concentrated at Nairobi (NBO).
