## Description

About 198,000 tonnes of airfreight in 2024 — a record — nearly all of it in the bellies of passenger aircraft: Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport (IATA: LIS, ICAO: LPPT) is Portugal's largest cargo airport by a wide margin without being a freighter hub. The enabler is home carrier TAP Air Portugal, whose long-haul network to Brazil, Angola and Mozambique turns Lisbon into a freight pivot between Europe, South America and Portuguese-speaking Africa. The airport counted around 35 million passengers in 2024 and is operating at its capacity ceiling — a replacement, Luís de Camões Airport at Alcochete south of the Tagus, has been approved. ANA Aeroportos de Portugal, owned by France's VINCI group since 2013, runs the site; sister company Portway handles most of the cargo work, and customs clearance operates on the premises. One oddity for a hub of this size: the city centre lies barely seven kilometres away and the metro stops at the terminal. Forwarders care more about the A1 motorway towards Porto and the Vasco da Gama bridge across the Tagus, which links the cargo area with the south of the country.
