## Description

Despite older claims to the contrary, Lipetsk Airport (IATA: LPK, ICAO: UUOL) is not a freight hub but a small regional airport in central Russia, roughly 400 km south of Moscow. Civil operations are currently suspended: the airport is being reconstructed, and Russian airspace restrictions imposed since 2022 have curtailed traffic across the country's south and centre. No cargo handling takes place here. The local economy is dominated by steelmaker NLMK (Novolipetsk) and the Lipetsk Special Economic Zone, but their goods move by rail and road rather than air. Air freight for the region is routed through Moscow's Sheremetyevo (SVO) and Vnukovo (VKO) airports. LPK should not be confused with the separate Lipetsk military air base, a training centre of the Russian Air Force.
