## Description

Terminal 3 – Tibet's largest, opened in 2021 – plus an expanded apron give Lhasa Gonggar International Airport (IATA: LXA) capacity for 80,000 tonnes of cargo a year, and a planned second runway targets 120,000 tonnes by 2030. Actual throughput reached about 45,000 tonnes in 2024, up 9.6 percent, making LXA by far the dominant airfreight location on the Tibetan plateau. Inbound traffic is led by fresh food, e-commerce parcels, medicines and spare parts; outbound shipments include matsutake mushrooms and Tibetan specialty goods. The 3,570-metre elevation cuts aircraft payload, so the dense Chengdu connection carries most volume, served by Air China, Sichuan Airlines and Tibet Airlines. Heavy freight moves in parallel on the Qinghai–Tibet railway and the Lhasa–Nyingchi line. Beijing positions the airport as a future logistics platform for South Asia. For forwarders, LXA is the only serious cargo option in Tibet.
