## Description

During the Cold War, interceptors scrambled from Leuchars out over the North Sea — for decades the station in Fife was one of Britain's most important air defence sites. In 2015 the British Army took over the site near St Andrews; the airfield remains in use as a military diversion field and for army aviation. Civilian traffic and cargo handling are excluded. Air freight from the Fife region is routed via Edinburgh (EDI, approx. 80 km), where express integrators are also present.
