## Description

Less than five kilometres separate the terminal from the old town – Tallinn Airport (IATA: TLL, ICAO: EETN) on the shore of Lake Ülemiste is one of Europe's most city-centre-friendly capitals' airports, with a tram stopping right outside the door. Named after Lennart Meri, writer and first president of re-independent Estonia, TLL is the smallest of the three Baltic capital airports at around 3 million passengers a year, served chiefly by airBaltic, Ryanair and the major European hub carriers. For freight, Tallinn is a niche station with solid basics: integrator feeders from DHL, FedEx and UPS cover the Estonian market, supplemented by bellyhold on passenger services. DHL has opened a new automated air-freight terminal worth around €24 million in the southern logistics park, able to process some 3,700 shipments an hour. Larger consignments, however, typically route via Helsinki, two hours away by ferry, or by road feeder service through Riga, Warsaw and Frankfurt. The location's distinctive asset is aviation itself: Magnetic MRO, one of Europe's better-known independent maintenance providers, is based at Tallinn and built three new narrow-body hangars there in 2024–2025, so engines and aircraft parts move regularly as air cargo. Estonia's export economy – electronics, machinery, IT hardware – generates steady if modest volumes. Next to the airport, the Tallinn terminus of Rail Baltica is under construction, with the Ülemiste interchange designed to knit together rail, tram and air.
