## Description

The German Air Force is reshaping Lechfeld Air Base (ICAO: ETSL) near Graben in Bavaria: from 2025 the long-established airfield south of Augsburg becomes home to a multinational A400M military-transport unit, with around ten of the four-engine airlifters planned by 2028, some €170 million of investment and several hundred new posts. The A400M's parent wing remains Air Transport Wing 62 (LTG 62) at Wunstorf, while Lechfeld also hosts a detachment of Tactical Air Wing 74 (Eurofighter), based at Neuburg an der Donau. The base is closed to civil aviation and handles no commercial freight. For air cargo in the Augsburg area, Munich Airport (IATA: MUC), about 60 km east, is southern Germany's principal cargo gateway.
