## Description

New England's busiest airport without an airline is also one of its most important: Hanscom Field in Bedford handles the corporate-jet traffic of Boston's tech, biotech and finance elite and holds the most private aircraft in the region. The port authority Massport runs the field beside the Route 128 corridor; adjacent Hanscom Air Force Base hosts MIT Lincoln Laboratory research rather than flying squadrons. There is no cargo facility – all air freight for the area clears through Boston Logan (BOS), about 15 miles southeast. A contested plan for 17 new business-jet hangars remains stuck in environmental review and, as of early 2026, had still not been formally filed.
