## Description

UPS, FedEx and DHL all run dedicated operations at Las Américas, alongside roughly eight all-cargo carriers and belly capacity on more than fifteen scheduled passenger services. This concentration of operators makes SDQ the busiest freight gateway in the Caribbean and Central America, handling some 161,000 tonnes in 2019. Sitting about 30 kilometres east of Santo Domingo, the airport channels the bulk of the Dominican Republic's international air trade. Its cargo complex separates perishables, dangerous goods and general merchandise, with cold-storage capacity for produce, flowers and pharmaceuticals. SDQ is the only Dominican airport where the customs authority (Dirección General de Aduanas) operates an express postal service, streamlining import clearance. The Autopista Las Américas links the ramp to the capital and to the deep-water port of Caucedo, supporting combined air-and-sea routings. For freight forwarders, it remains the country's primary reference point for time-critical shipments.
