## Description

A Trident jet has been rusting on the apron of Nicosia's abandoned airport since 1974 – and Larnaca has carried the Republic of Cyprus's air traffic ever since. Larnaca International Airport «Glafcos Clerides» (IATA: LCA, ICAO: LCLK) opened hastily in 1975 after the island's division and is now its dominant gateway: operator Hermes Airports counted over 12 million passengers across Larnaca and the smaller Paphos in 2024, with the lion's share at LCA, home base of Cyprus Airways and TUS Airways. Virtually all Cypriot air cargo – lately around 30,000 tonnes a year, up roughly 20 percent in 2024 – funnels through Larnaca. DHL, FedEx and UPS all serve the airport; inbound traffic is driven by e-commerce, pharmaceuticals and spare parts, while exports include halloumi and fresh produce.
