## Description

Johannesburg runs two international gateways, and the smaller of them earns its place through agility rather than sheer scale. Lanseria (HLA), privately owned and set northwest of the city, is best known as a low-cost passenger base for FlySafair and Airlink on the trunk routes to Cape Town and Durban. On the freight side, Safe Fly Cargo operates daily scheduled airfreight to Cape Town and remains the only scheduled cargo carrier at the field. Handling agents such as Enloade manage customs documentation for imports and exports, CAA Part 108 cargo screening, short-term storage and ramp transfers. What the airport lacks is dedicated cargo infrastructure: with no freight terminal, warehousing or ground-support equipment, shipments move by forklift straight between truck and aircraft. Heavy and intercontinental freight therefore still clears through O. R. Tambo, roughly 50 km to the southeast. Road links via the R512 and N14 tie Lanseria into both Johannesburg and Pretoria. Its fully private ownership makes it an unusual case among the region's international airports.
