## Description

South-west Louisiana's oil-and-gas economy gives Lafayette Regional Airport (IATA: LFT, ICAO: KLFT) a genuine cargo side: FedEx and UPS occupy dedicated freight buildings, and an expanded apron handles freighters up to the Boeing 757. Lafayette is the main town of Cajun Acadiana, and its airport doubles as a base for the offshore helicopters that ferry crews to Gulf rigs. Passenger traffic hit a record 532,811 in 2024, with American, Delta and United flying nonstop to Dallas/Fort Worth, Charlotte, Atlanta and Houston. A new passenger terminal opened in 2022, and the wider project closed under budget in early 2025. Heavy or outsize air freight also routes to New Orleans (MSY), about 220 kilometres east along Interstate 10.
