## Description

Kushinagar marks the site of the Buddha's parinirvana and is a key stop on the Buddhist pilgrimage circuit. For it, Uttar Pradesh opened Kushinagar International Airport (IATA: KBK) in 2021, complete with a 3,200 m international runway – yet traffic has barely materialised: scheduled service has been dormant for over a year and there are no international flights. No commercial cargo handling exists. The field did gain an IFR licence in 2025 for all-weather operations, which could in time unlock perishables freight from the surrounding farming districts. For now, air cargo routes via Varanasi (VNS), around 150 km to the south-west.
