Nearby Dounan is Asia's largest fresh-cut flower market, and Yunnan's flower exports reach buyers across dozens of countries via the airport, often within a 36-hour freshness window. On 11 February 2026 the airport handled 1,733 tonnes of cargo and mail in a single day; annualised, Changshui is targeting roughly 950,000 tonnes. In April 2026 IndiGo launched a new thrice-weekly all-cargo service between Kunming and Kolkata using an A321F freighter. The 4F facility, opened in 2012 to replace old Wujiaba, is south-west China's platform towards South and Southeast Asia, with numerous international destinations in the region.
