## Description

Roughly 1,370 kilometres from Tripoli, Kufra Airport is the principal air link to Al Jawf, the capital of the Kufra District in Libya's remote southeast. Such isolation leaves the aircraft with little competition, as overland routes across the desert are long and arduous. The airport mainly handles domestic, charter and supply flights and has lately carried considerable weight as a transfer point in trans-Saharan supply chains. In early 2026 it was closed for about a month for maintenance. Commercial air freight for the wider region and for export is routed through Benina near Benghazi.
