## Description

Reopened on 4 March 2024 after a NATO-funded upgrade of around €50 million, Kuçovë Air Base became the first NATO air base in the Balkans. Lying roughly 80 km south of Tirana, it supports Balkan air policing, search and rescue, aerial surveillance and Alliance logistics, and hosts Albanian Air Force operations. There is no civilian scheduled or cargo traffic, and the field carries no IATA code. Commercial air freight for the area is handled at Tirana International Airport (TIA), about 80 km to the north.
