## Description

Two airports of very different weight share the Kuantan name: the air gateway and the seaport. Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Airport (KUA) moved barely 2.8 tonnes of air cargo in 2019, serving mostly domestic passenger routes to Kuala Lumpur with Malaysia Airlines and AirAsia. Heavy freight instead flows through Kuantan Port in Pahang, anchored by the Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park (MCKIP), whose goods travel just twelve kilometres to the quay and onward to Qinzhou Port in China. From 2027 the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) will connect Port Klang to Kuantan by rail, reinforcing the maritime corridor rather than the runway. Freight forwarders should therefore route genuine air shipments via Kuala Lumpur (KUL), while Kuantan remains a passenger and industrial base, with a planned aerospace city adding cargo and MRO capacity around 2027.
