## Description

Engineered for more than 55,000 tonnes a year across 23,000 m² of warehouse, Krasnoyarsk Yemelyanovo (IATA: KJA, ICAO: UNKL) is Siberia's leading cargo airport. It lies about 27 km northwest of Krasnoyarsk and was built up as a freight base from 2018, when AirBridgeCargo of the Volga-Dnepr group moved its Siberian hub here; the terminal can handle up to 150 tonnes of cargo a day and offers heated, unheated and temperature-controlled storage. The site owes that role to its position on the great-circle routes between Europe and Asia, long valued as a technical stop and transfer point for intercontinental freighters. After the 2022 sanctions, however, AirBridgeCargo's international widebody freighters were largely grounded, and the airport has since reoriented towards Asian markets — a new bonded temporary-storage warehouse for perishables and high-value goods opened in May 2024. Passenger traffic rose about 13 percent in 2024, a record for the airport. Road links tie Yemelyanovo to Krasnoyarsk and the Trans-Siberian Railway, enabling combined air-rail flows towards China. For forwarders, KJA remains Siberia's central freight point, though its actual utilisation now depends heavily on demand from Asia.
