## Description

Ural Airlines makes its home at Koltsovo, the international airport of Yekaterinburg (IATA: SVX, ICAO: USSS), set about 16 km southeast of the Urals' largest city. By passenger numbers it ranked among Russia's seven busiest airports in 2024. Air cargo moves mainly through the workflows of Russian carriers such as S7 Cargo, Ural Airlines and Air Astana Cargo; Western freight operators have been absent since the 2022 sanctions, and international flows have shifted heavily towards Asia, the CIS and Turkey. The airport publishes little reliable recent tonnage data — throughput stood at roughly 25,000–28,000 tonnes a year in 2013/2014, with no confirmed figures since. As an industrial and mining region, the Urals generates steady demand for spare parts, equipment and time-critical shipments, carried as belly freight and on occasional freighters. Yekaterinburg is well connected by the federal road network and the Trans-Siberian Railway, but the Moscow airports of Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo and Vnukovo concentrate the bulk of Russia's intercontinental air cargo. For forwarders, Koltsovo is therefore primarily the regional access point for the Urals rather than an international freight hub.
