## Description

Yamato Transport put Kitakyushu on Japan's freighter map: since April 2024, A321P2F aircraft operated by Spring Japan have linked KKJ daily with Tokyo and Okinawa under the JAL/Yamato cargo programme. The airport sits on an artificial island in the Suo Sea and is one of only a handful of Japanese airports open 24 hours – night-time slots are a key selling point for express logistics. The Sky Connect KKJ council, backed by the city, prefecture and local shippers, is developing the site into the logistics base for Kyushu and western Chugoku. A 2,500 m runway handles narrow-body freighters comfortably, and customs clearance is available on site. Road links feed the industrial belt of Kitakyushu with its steel, automotive and semiconductor plants, while the adjacent seaport supports multimodal chains. Passenger service to Tokyo is provided by Starflyer and JAL among others. Together with Fukuoka (FUK), KKJ gives northern Kyushu two air cargo options – with the night-operations edge on its side.
