## Description

Coal built the Kuzbass, but Kemerovo Airport (IATA: KEJ, ICAO: UNEE) is not a freight gateway for it. Named after cosmonaut Alexei Leonov, the airport in south-western Siberia handles domestic scheduled traffic — to Moscow and Novosibirsk among others — with S7 Airlines, Ural Airlines, Red Wings and Nordwind. A new domestic terminal of about 11,600 m² opened in May 2021, built for passengers rather than freight. There is no dedicated cargo handling; air freight moves only as belly load on scheduled flights. For larger or international shipments, the nearest cargo hub is Novosibirsk Tolmachevo (OVB), roughly 250 road kilometres west, about four hours by truck. For forwarders, KEJ is a passenger airport, not a cargo point.
