## Description

Copra and black-lipped pearl oysters are the economic mainstay of Kaukura, the Tuamotu atoll served by Kaukura Airport (KKR) at the village of Raitahiti. Air Tahiti reaches the coral airstrip with ATR turboprops from Papeete, sometimes routing via neighbouring atolls. Despite older claims of round-the-clock cargo handling, the field has no freight terminal and no such operations; goods move as belly load or, in bulk, aboard the inter-island supply schooners that call at the lagoon. The airport is honestly not cargo-capable. Any air freight of consequence is consolidated at Tahiti Faa'a (PPT), some 350 kilometres to the southwest.
