## Description

A container seaport and an airport within a few kilometres of each other: that combination defines Kaohsiung International Airport (IATA: KHH) for freight forwarders. KHH entered international air cargo as early as 1969 and operates a dedicated international cargo terminal with on-site customs clearance; two apron positions are reserved for cargo build-up, and Cargolux serves the airport with scheduled freighter flights. Airfreight volumes reached about 53,443 tonnes in 2025, up 25.4 percent year on year, and departures kept climbing into 2026, up 10.6 percent in January with a 94.2 percent on-time rate. With around 5.8 million passengers in 2024, KHH is Taiwan's second-busiest airport, offering belly capacity on regional routes to Hong Kong, Japan, Korea and Southeast Asia. For high-volume intercontinental shipments, however, most forwarders route via Taoyuan (TPE), where freighter frequencies are far higher. Ground access runs via National Freeway 1, Expressway 88 and the Kaohsiung MRT Red Line, whose station sits directly inside the terminal. The airport serves southern Taiwan's industrial belt – steel, petrochemicals, shipbuilding and a growing semiconductor cluster – with the nearby Port of Kaohsiung, Taiwan's largest container port, making sea-air routings especially attractive.
