## Description

Kamuzu International (LLW) is built around a dedicated cargo terminal with on-site customs and handling — the backbone of Malawi's air freight, moving roughly 9,100 tonnes a year (about 6,500 inbound and 2,600 outbound). Located at Lumbadzi some 20 km north of the capital Lilongwe, it is operated by Airport Developments Limited and anchors the country's scheduled network. Malawian Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways and Airlink connect it to Addis Ababa, Nairobi and Johannesburg, with Ethiopian feeding shipments into its cargo network at ADD. Tobacco, pulses and perishable produce dominate outbound loads, carried in belly holds and on dedicated freight capacity. Because Malawi is landlocked, the Nacala Corridor railway through Lilongwe complements air freight for heavy tonnage to the Mozambican coast. Road corridors to Beira and Dar es Salaam complete the multimodal picture. Customs clearance is handled on site by the Malawi Revenue Authority. At over 1,200 metres elevation, LLW ranks among southern Africa's higher international airports.
