## Description

Opened in the 2010s alongside the Sentinel copper project, Kalumbila Airport (UMB) was built by First Quantum Minerals to serve its mine and the surrounding economic zone in North-Western Province. Proflight Zambia is the sole carrier, with roughly twelve weekly flights to Lusaka and Solwezi. Mined copper leaves by road and rail to the coast rather than by air, so UMB mainly moves mine staff, specialists and urgent spare parts. With no dedicated freight terminal, larger air-cargo shipments are routed through Kenneth Kaunda International (LUN) in Lusaka.
