## Description

KAT marks the top of New Zealand's road and air map. Kaitaia Airport at Awanui is the country's northernmost commercial airport, close to Cape Reinga and Ninety Mile Beach, with regional carriers such as Barrier Air linking it to Auckland. It has no cargo terminal or air freight handling. For freight professionals, goods for the Far North move through Auckland (AKL) some 325 road kilometres south and onward by truck along State Highway 1. Built on farming, avocados and tourism, the district sends its exports out through Auckland and the main ports rather than by air from Kaitaia.
