## Description

Twenty-two kilometres northwest of Kaduna, the airport sits in the administrative core of northern Nigeria, a city once built on textiles and now anchored by government, universities and the agricultural trade of the surrounding plateau. Commissioned in 1982 and upgraded in 2017 for both domestic and international service, it briefly carried all of Abuja's traffic that year when the capital closed its runway for repairs. Passenger flights dominate, and the airport has no dedicated freighter terminal. Air cargo for the region is consolidated mainly through Kano, roughly 200 kilometres north, or through Abuja. Belly freight on scheduled passenger aircraft is cleared on site by ground handlers and the Nigeria Customs Service. For freight forwarders, Kaduna works as a feeder point rather than a cargo gateway, with time-critical shipments better routed via KAN or ABV.
