## Description

Kadena's runways predate the end of the Second World War: US forces took over the Japanese airstrip in 1945 during the Battle of Okinawa and built it into what is now the largest US Air Force base in the Asia-Pacific region. Today Kadena Air Base (IATA: DNA) hosts the 18th Wing on two runways of roughly 3,700 metres. It is a purely military installation with no civilian cargo handling and no scheduled commercial services. Freight for Okinawa moves through Naha Airport (OKA), some 20 kilometres to the south, which operates an international cargo terminal. For forwarders, Kadena only becomes relevant in defence-related project logistics with the appropriate clearances.
