## Description

Stripped of its international status in April 2024, Juwata Airport (TRK, ICAO WAQQ) on Tarakan island regained it in 2025 and remains the busiest airport in Indonesia's North Kalimantan province. Ministerial decree KM 37/2025, issued in August 2025, restored the designation subject to conditions, with customs and the animal, fish and plant quarantine service confirming their readiness to handle international traffic. The airport is operated by InJourney Airports, the group into which the former Angkasa Pura I was merged in 2024. Freight moves mainly as belly cargo on scheduled services to Jakarta, Balikpapan and Surabaya, supplemented by charter runs carrying food, building materials and general cargo to roadless airstrips in the Bornean interior; a dedicated cargo terminal with regular freighter operations is not confirmed. Intercontinental shipments continue to route through Balikpapan (BPN) and Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta (CGK). Because Tarakan is an island, there is no road feeder service from the mainland: pre- and on-carriage run through the island's seaport, and a resumption of the cross-border link to Tawau in Malaysia is under review.
