## Description

Built as a Soviet military air base at Tukums, the field was converted to civil use in 2010 and renamed Jūrmala Airport (ICAO EVJA) in 2012. It lies near Smārde in Tukums Municipality, about 60 km west of Riga and 35 km from the Jūrmala seaside resort, and today serves general aviation, business and charter flights rather than scheduled traffic. Services on site include ground handling, refuelling, aircraft parking, certified maintenance and space for events and filming, and the Baltic Bees aerobatic team is based here. There is no cargo terminal, no freighter handling and no customs post for third-country goods, and while the operators state an intention to develop commercial traffic, none is in place. Air freight from Kurzeme and the Riga region therefore moves through Riga International (RIX) roughly 70 km east, Latvia's only substantial cargo gateway. When capacity is tight, forwarders truck consignments on to Vilnius (VNO) or Kaunas (KUN) in Lithuania by road feeder service.
