## Description

Reopened in November 2025 after months of runway rehabilitation, Juan Pablo Pérez Alfonso Airport (VIG, SVVG) at El Vigía is once again the main air access to Venezuela's Mérida state. Its runway of roughly 3,240 by 60 metres ranks among the longest in the country, and Conviasa, LASER Airlines and other operators fly around 14 weekly services to five domestic destinations including Caracas, Barcelona and Porlamar. No cargo airline, freighter operation or dedicated freight terminal is confirmed here; what moves does so as belly cargo on passenger flights. Bananas, plantains, oil palm and cacao from the Sur del Lago lowlands at the southern end of Lake Maracaibo leave by truck toward domestic markets and seaports. For commercial air freight, La Chinita at Maracaibo (MAR) is the nearest developed cargo airport, with Caracas-Maiquetía (CCS) behind it. Forwarders therefore treat VIG as a passenger and road point in the Andean farming interior.
