## Description

Boliviana de Aviación is the sole airline at Juan Mendoza Airport (ORU, SLOR), the Altiplano field serving the mining city of Oruro at roughly 3,700 metres above sea level. Traffic is entirely domestic: the Cochabamba route accounts for around seven weekly flights and the large majority of all departures, with onward links toward Santa Cruz. Despite a runway close to 4,000 metres there are no international services, no freighter operations and no cargo terminal on site. Tin, silver and industrial minerals from the region travel by road and rail toward Pacific ports in Chile and Peru rather than by air. Forwarders with time-critical air freight use Viru Viru in Santa Cruz (VVI), Bolivia's principal cargo gateway, or El Alto near La Paz (LPB), some 230 road kilometres to the north. Passenger demand peaks sharply around the UNESCO-listed Oruro Carnival.
