## Description

Aerovaradero S.A., teamed with Cargosur, the freight arm of Spain's Iberia group, runs the international cargo operation at Havana's José Martí airport (IATA HAV, ICAO MUHA). Opened in 2002 by Air Freight Logistics Enterprise (ELCA S.A.), the Aerovaradero terminal was the island's first dedicated freight facility and remains Cuba's principal air-cargo gateway. It offers around 600 tonnes of storage plus two refrigeration and freezing chambers with humidity and gas control for temperature-sensitive consignments. Pharmaceutical and biotech exports, perishables and tourism supplies make up the core traffic, much of it moving as belly cargo on Iberia and Air Europa services alongside charter freighters. The airport sits about 15 km south of the capital, with road links into Havana and the deep-water port of Mariel some 45 km to the west. Mariel hosts the ZEDM special economic and free-trade zone, a draw for bonded logistics and re-export. Customs clearance is handled by the Aduana General de la República, with bonded warehousing available on site. For freight planners, HAV is the realistic consolidation point for any air shipment into or out of Cuba.
