## Description

Jorhat Airport (IATA: JRH, ICAO: VEJT) in Upper Assam handled about 121 tonnes of cargo in the April 2025 to March 2026 financial year - second-busiest in the state by passengers after Guwahati, marginal in freight terms. Some 380,000 passengers used the airport in FY2024-25; it is run by the Airports Authority of India as a civil enclave on Rowriah Air Force Station, roughly seven kilometres from the city centre. IndiGo serves Jorhat with seven weekly non-stop flights to Kolkata plus connections over Guwahati, and a single integrated terminal handles domestic traffic only. There is no cargo terminal, no freighter rotation and no customs post for international air freight; whatever flies moves as belly cargo on the scheduled aircraft. The tea of the surrounding gardens, Upper Assam's defining export, has always travelled by rail and road to auction centres and ports rather than by air. For air freight out of the region, Guwahati (GAU) some 300 kilometres west along the NH715/NH27 corridor is Northeast India's access point, with Kolkata (CCU) as the international gateway.
