## Description

Inaugurated in 1935 and renamed in 2010 after a local newspaper founder, João Correa da Rocha Airport (MAB) today handles domestic services only for the city of Marabá in Pará state. It ranks among the fastest-growing passenger airports in northern Brazil, linking the Carajás area to Belém, Brasília and São Paulo. Freight professionals should note that the region's mineral wealth moves by the Carajás railway (EFC) to the Ponta da Madeira maritime terminal, not by air. Cargo at MAB is limited to belly capacity on scheduled flights, with time-critical airfreight routed through the Belém (BEL) gateway. The Spanish-led AENA consortium has operated the airport under a 30-year concession since 2022.
