## Description

Sinotruk heavy trucks and Inspur servers are built in Jinan, and their express parts and components already feed cargo flows at Yaoqiang Airport — but the bigger story is the Phase II expansion now taking shape. A new T2 terminal building of roughly 600,000 square metres and two additional 3,600-metre runways are meant to make Jinan the largest airport in Shandong, overtaking Qingdao; the T2 roof structure was topped out in May 2026 and the new control tower was completed in June 2026. Once complete, the airport targets around 520,000 tonnes of cargo and mail handling a year. For now, freight remains mostly belly cargo on passenger services, complemented by occasional charter freighters; a permanent intercontinental freighter network does not yet exist. Forwarders typically route main-leg shipments via Qingdao or Beijing, both two to four hours away by motorway. The Jinan area of the Shandong Pilot Free Trade Zone offers bonded processing close to the airport.
