## Description

Before the Second World War this field was Columbia's main airport; today Jim Hamilton–L.B. Owens Airport (CUB/KCUB) is a county-owned general aviation facility two nautical miles south of downtown Columbia, South Carolina. It serves business, training and private flying, with a fixed base operator providing fuel and ground services for piston and light jet traffic. There are no scheduled flights, no freighter operations, no cargo terminal and no customs post, so the airport is not an option for commercial air freight. Air cargo for the South Carolina Midlands is handled instead at Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE), roughly ten kilometres west, which offers freight handling and express services. For larger volumes, intercontinental connections and sea freight links, Charlotte Douglas (CLT) and Charleston (CHS) come into play, both two to three hours away via Interstates 26 and 77.
