Jieyang Chaoshan International Airport (SWA/ZGOW) handled 38,678.7 tonnes of cargo and mail in 2025, making it the air freight access point for the Chaoshan export belt in eastern Guangdong, covering Shantou, Chaozhou and Jieyang. Its phase two expansion was designed for 80,000 tonnes of cargo and mail and nine million passengers by 2025, so actual volumes reach only about half the planned capacity and headroom remains. The goods shipped reflect local industry: garments and underwear, toys, ceramics and a growing share of e-commerce parcels. Dedicated freighter service is limited, and a substantial part of the region's exports either travels as belly cargo or is trucked to the province's larger hubs. For intercontinental freighter capacity, dangerous goods and temperature-controlled shipments, Guangzhou Baiyun (CAN) and Shenzhen Bao'an (SZX) remain the first choice, both reachable via the coastal expressway and high-speed rail corridor.
