## Description

From Jack Northrop's 1939 aircraft works to an electric air-taxi base: Hawthorne Municipal Airport (IATA: HHR, ICAO: KHHR), formally Jack Northrop Field, has changed hands rather than changed purpose. In November 2025 eVTOL manufacturer Archer Aviation paid about 126 million dollars to take over the master ground lease covering the non-airfield property, acquiring a 75 percent interest and planning a passenger air-mobility base timed to the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Day to day the field remains general aviation on a single 4,884-foot runway, complemented by Advanced Air's commuter and charter jet flights, which continue from the new terminal building to destinations including Crescent City (CEC). No air cargo is handled here — no freight terminal, no freighter operations and no customs facility for imports. Shippers use Los Angeles International (LAX) and its cargo warehouses about five kilometres west, or Ontario (ONT) inland for integrator and e-commerce volumes. SpaceX designs and builds rockets on the edge of the airfield, which is what most visitors actually come to see.
