## Description

A busy passenger terminal does not make an air cargo station: Jabalpur (IATA JLR, ICAO VAJB) recorded 514,641 passengers in the Indian financial year April 2025 to March 2026, up 31 per cent, against exactly zero tonnes of cargo in the Airports Authority of India's statistics. The airport sits on the wooded Dumna plateau about 20 kilometres east of the city centre in Madhya Pradesh and opened a new terminal on 10 March 2024, built for some 412 crore rupees with three aerobridges and a peak-hour capacity of roughly 800 passengers; the runway has been extended to 2,750 metres for narrowbody jets. What it lacks is a dedicated freight terminal, a cold chain and an air-cargo customs facility. IndiGo and other domestic carriers link Jabalpur with Delhi, Mumbai and Indore, so shipments can only ride along as limited belly load. Output from the region's defence plants, engineering works and mineral industries is therefore trucked on NH30 and NH44 to the cargo gateways at Nagpur (NAG, roughly 280 kilometres) or Delhi (DEL), with Raipur (RPR) an option for eastern Madhya Pradesh. Allow a full trucking day in the pre-carriage when quoting air freight out of Jabalpur.
