## Description

A 1,325-metre concrete strip north-east of the settlement is all that remains of scheduled aviation at Izhma (ICAO UUYV) in Russia's Komi Republic: the runway was closed to airliners in 2003 and declared unfit, and the site now operates as a helipad. It became widely known in September 2010, when an Alrosa Tu-154 lost electrical power and put down safely on the disused strip, which the local caretaker had kept clear of scrub for years. Since 8 May 2026 Komiaviatrans has again served Izhma by helicopter on a ring route from Pechora via Ust-Tsilma, Charkabozh, Kipiyevo, Brykalansk and Nyashabozh, carrying passengers and mail to villages without a year-round road. There is no IATA code, no cargo terminal, no dangerous-goods capability and no customs office. Air freight for the Komi Republic is handled at Syktyvkar (SCW), while Ukhta (UCT) and Usinsk (USK) serve the northern oil districts. Surface freight reaches the Pechora basin by river barge, winter road and the Kotlas–Vorkuta railway, all of which pause during the spring and autumn thaw.
