## Description

Named after assault-rifle designer Mikhail Kalashnikov, Izhevsk International Airport (IJK, ICAO USII) lies about 15 km from the industrial and arms-manufacturing city of Izhevsk, capital of Udmurtia. It is the home base of carrier Izhavia, with mostly domestic traffic to Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Black Sea summer destinations. The airport gained international status in 2023, and in 2024 a new ₽4.3 billion terminal opened with capacity for 400 passengers per hour – double the old building. No significant standalone air cargo operation is documented; shipments move mainly as belly load. For scheduled air freight, regional shippers use the larger Kazan Airport (KZN, about 380 km) or the Moscow hubs.
