## Description

Ivalo (IVL/EFIV) is the European Union's northernmost airport, yet in freight terms it is one of its quietest. Finavia counted roughly 249,000 passengers here in 2025, almost all of them leisure traffic bound for Saariselkä, Inari and the Lapland winter season. Finnair serves Helsinki year-round and international charters fill the winter schedule, with nine direct connections announced for winter 2025/26; no cargo terminal or freighter operation is documented, so air freight travels as belly cargo. Road access runs along European route E75 and there is no rail link, the Finnish network stopping some 300 kilometres to the south. Shippers therefore treat Helsinki-Vantaa (HEL) as the gateway and add a long trucking leg, with Rovaniemi (RVN) and Kittilä (KTT) as the nearer regional alternatives. Lapland's airports together grew 12 per cent year on year in the first quarter of 2026, so passenger capacity, and with it belly space, is trending upward.
