## Description

Whisky is what the world associates with Islay, yet almost none of it leaves the island by air: Islay Airport (IATA: ILY, ICAO: EGPI) handled 32,080 passengers in 2025, up five percent on the previous year, and no meaningful freight. The airport at Glenegedale is run by Highlands and Islands Airports Limited (HIAL), with Loganair flying daily to Glasgow and Hebridean Air Services serving Oban and Colonsay on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Casks, bottled stock from distilleries such as Ardbeg, Laphroaig, Lagavulin and Bowmore, and general goods travel by road and Caledonian MacBrayne ferry from Kennacraig to Port Ellen or Port Askaig, a crossing of roughly two hours, with about 160 road kilometres between Glasgow and the mainland terminal.
