## Description

A 1,831-metre asphalt runway 06/24, a Canadian North cargo warehouse, a Canada Border Services Agency post and a Royal Canadian Air Force forward operating location make up the working infrastructure of Inuvik (Mike Zubko) Airport (IATA: YEV, ICAO: CYEV), 12 kilometres east of town. It is the principal air access point for the Beaufort Delta and the western Arctic. In August 2026 the Government of Canada announced that modernisation would start that autumn, with up to CAD 49.5 million from the Arctic Infrastructure Fund for the runway surface and the access road, explicitly to support growing cargo volumes, alongside CAD 230 million from the Department of National Defence to extend the runway to 2,743 metres. Canadian North operates Boeing 737-300 services carrying both passengers and freight, and Air North also handles cargo here. Food, equipment and mail for the Mackenzie Delta communities move through the airport and onward by road. The Dempster Highway and the year-round Inuvik-Tuktoyaktuk Highway allow air-road interlining, while Yellowknife (YZF) and Edmonton (YEG) serve as the larger alternatives to the south.
