## Description

Ringed by hill ranges and dependent on two vulnerable highways, the state of Manipur leans heavily on Imphal's Bir Tikendrajit International Airport (IMF) for its connection to the rest of India. IndiGo, Air India and regional carriers serve Delhi, Kolkata and Guwahati, and during road blockades the air link has repeatedly become the territory's supply line. According to the Airports Authority of India there is currently no dedicated cargo terminal: freight travels solely as belly load on passenger aircraft, though an upgrade of the cargo infrastructure including cold storage is planned. Perishables such as local fruit and handloom products are typical outbound goods. For larger consignments, forwarders route via Kolkata (CCU) or Guwahati (GAU).
