## Description

Iran's flag and private carriers — Iran Air Cargo, Mahan Air, Caspian Airlines, Meraj and Qeshm Fars Air — make Imam Khomeini International Airport (IKA) the country's principal air cargo gateway. Located about 50 km south of Tehran, it took over Iran's international scheduled and freighter traffic from Mehrabad in 2007. The cargo terminal spans roughly 84,000 m² with warehousing, bonded storage and customs clearance handled by the Iranian Customs Administration (IRICA), processing on the order of 120,000–142,000 tonnes a year. Freighter and belly networks reach the Middle East, North Africa, the CIS, the Indian subcontinent and South-East Asia, with Asian and regional operators dominating under sanctions. The surrounding Imam Khomeini Airport City is being developed as a special economic and free-trade zone with logistics and distribution space. Motorway links connect IKA to Tehran and the national road network for onward trucking. For forwarders, IKA is the default routing point for international air freight to and from Iran. A distinctive feature is the integration of passenger, cargo and free-zone functions within a single large airport-city development.
