## Description

Ibadan Airport (IBA/DNIB), officially Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Oyo State, is in the middle of the most ambitious upgrade in its history: the runway has been extended from 2,400 to 3,000 metres and widened from 45 to 60 metres to accept wide-body aircraft. The airport was closed from March 2025 for the works and, according to the state government, received its first aircraft on the rebuilt runway in September 2025. An international terminal under construction is intended to raise capacity from 100,000 to one million passengers a year, with mid-2026 announced as the target; whether international services have actually started is not confirmed. No dedicated cargo terminal, cold-chain facility or based freight carrier is documented for Ibadan so far. Air freight for southwestern Nigeria therefore still clears at Lagos Murtala Muhammed (LOS), about 130 km away on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, with Abuja (ABV) as the inland alternative. Shippers should factor congestion on that expressway into transit times.
