## Description

Long filed away as a tourist airport, Hulunbuir Hailar International Airport (IATA: HLD, ICAO: ZBLA) in fact handled 6,233 tonnes of cargo and mail alongside 3.24 million passengers in 2025, making it the leading air gateway in north-eastern Inner Mongolia. The field has been open to international traffic since 1995 and lists around ten cross-border routes, among them Chita, Vladivostok and Hong Kong, on top of domestic services to Beijing, Harbin, Hohhot and other major cities. All freight travels as belly cargo on those passenger flights; there is no dedicated cargo terminal and no freighter operation. Demand is strongly seasonal, with extra summer flights carrying visitors to the Hulunbuir grasslands and a reduced core schedule through the winter. In August 2026 the airport recorded a seat load factor of 92.3 per cent, the highest in China, and entered the country's sixty busiest airports for the first time. Heavy, outsize or temperature-controlled consignments still route through Harbin Taiping (HRB), with Beijing serving intercontinental uplift. China-Russia trade in this corridor moves mainly overland anyway: the Manzhouli crossing some 200 kilometres west is the largest land border point between the two countries and takes both road and rail traffic.
