## Description

Huizhou Pingtan Airport (IATA: HUZ, ICAO: ZGHZ) is being built into the eastern counterweight to Shenzhen Bao'an, and the cargo numbers already reflect it: 11,661 tonnes of freight and mail in 2025, up 24.7 per cent, followed by roughly 1,258 tonnes in the 2026 spring season, almost 55 per cent above the year before. The dual-use civil-military field in Huiyang District has flown 47 routes to 36 Chinese cities since the summer-autumn season opened on 29 March 2026, with Mangshi, Zhangjiajie, Qingdao and Hefei added; there are no international services. Freight moves as belly cargo supported by a cargo terminal of about 1,800 square metres built in 2018 and rated for 20,000 tonnes a year. Huizhou's consumer electronics plants and the Daya Bay petrochemical complex still send export consignments and main-deck volumes by truck to Shenzhen Bao'an (SZX), Guangzhou Baiyun (CAN) or Hong Kong (HKG), one to two hours away by expressway, where customs clearance normally takes place. A phase-two expansion moved into implementation in March 2026, adding a second 3,200-metre code 4E runway, a T3 terminal of roughly 110,000 square metres and a dedicated cargo station, sized for eleven million passengers and 100,000 tonnes of cargo and mail a year and scheduled, on current plans, for completion by 2028.
